Throughout my writing process in English 110, I worked to address some of the most common errors in my writing, such as sentence structure, clarity, and word choice. One area that has proved to be the most difficult for me in my writing is sentence clarity, especially when I tend to write overcomplicated or run-on sentences. Such sentences perplex the reader and make it hard for my ideas to be communicated effectively. To rectify this, I have worked on breaking down long sentences into short, simple ones. This not only enhances the clarity of my writing but also makes me convey my ideas more systematically.Another common flaw I’ve worked to improve is using imprecise or vague words. I often use general terms such as “things” or “stuff” that make my writing sound informal or vague. In due time, I have tried replacing these ambiguous terms with their more specific and academic vocabularies. For instance, instead of saying “social media has a big effect,” I now try to say something like “social media significantly influences mental health.” This will give it a professional touch and be concise.Additionally, I have paid more attention to transitions between ideas. In the past, I would often jump from one point to the next without clear connections, making my writing feel disjointed. I’ve worked on adding transition phrases and ensuring that each paragraph flows into the next.
